Setting Application Permissions

About Application Permissions

Different users are allowed to view or do different things in certain apps. In the case of the Work Order app, for example:

  • A Resident can see only the work order he or she has submitted.
  • A Technician can see only those work orders that have been assigned to him or her.
  • An Account Manager can see all work orders that are associated with his or her account.

When work orders have been completed, only certain users can mark them "Complete" or move them to an archived location.

The above is an example of how application permissions work.

Sometimes application permissions need to be edited. Usually, only Administrators may edit these permissions.

This article is primarily for Administrators whose role level allows you to set app permissions by user role.

It may look a little complicated at first but stick with us. You'll get the hang of it in no time.

Getting Started

  1.  First, make sure you're in the User's app. From the dashboard, select the Users app

  2. Next, click on the gear icon to get to the Settings panel.

  3. Now click on Role & Permissions Settings

Digging In

Now you will tweak app settings by user role. You can get pretty granular with this.

  1. You'll first select the role that you want to set app permissions for.

  2. Next, you'll select the app that you want to set permissions for.

Inside the App Settings Panel: Using the Preset Permissions Slider

  1. In every app, there are two ways to set permissions levels. The first (and fastest) way is with the macro slider under the app title. This is a quick way to use preset permission levels. Simply move the macro slider to the right. As you slide it, you'll see the Level number and description change underneath. For example, in the Announcements App, here we've moved the slider to reflect Level 1 permissions.

  2. Now see what changes when we move the slider to Level 3. Note how the mini sliders underneath have also moved.

  3. Don't forget to click SAVE on the bottom right to make your settings stick.

Inside the App Settings Panel: Using the Toggles and Mini-Sliders

  1. The second way to set permissions levels is by using the toggles and mini-sliders in the main part of the panel. Icons over the sliders show the permissions at different levels, ranging from most restricted to most permissions. See how the sliders can be placed at different settings.
  2. Note that the macro slider under the title will move automatically when the mini-sliders are moved.
  3. Remember to click SAVE when you're happy with your settings.

General Note About App Permissions Settings

Each app is a little different in its permissions settings. Permissions panels don't all look like the Announcements app permissions panel above. However, all permissions panels are alike in that they use toggles and sliders. Once you've learned how to make settings in one panel, you'll be home free using the others.
