Add and Publish a New Post

Want to add a new post to your site?

If you've never done this before, it might seem tricky. But really, it's not. When you've added a new post once or twice, you'll have the process down pat!

In this article, we explain how to add a standard post to your website (as opposed to a blog post on a dedicated blog page).

Remember, not all users will have the permissions to access the back end of the website and add posts.

Getting Started

  1. Log in to the portal area of your community website. From the app dropdown menu on the dashboard, navigate to the back end--the non-public area--of the website. (The items on your dropdown may look different from the ones below.)

  2. You'll now see a screen that looks something like this. You're in the WordPress dashboard now. Remember, WordPress is the platform used to build your site. (See the article called "Website Overview.") Hover over your site name at the top and click Visit Site

  3. You're now in your own website with a toolbar across the top.

Add a New Post

  1. On the toolbar across the top of the screen, hover over + New to see a drop-down menu and then click on Post.

  2. Here is where you're starting to create your own post. Right now, everything you're doing is in draft form. Nothing is published (viewable to the public). First, add your title and then type your content into the box beneath.

  3. Save your post as a draft and preview it so you can see what the end product will look like after you've published it. (Click Save Draft and then click Preview.)

  4. When you preview your post, it'll look something like this. (Depending on your site, it will look a little different.) Remember, no one can see your post yet.

Publish Your Post or Schedule it to Publish Later

  1. For your post to go live so that others can see it, you have to publish it. You can either publish it immediately or schedule it to post later.
  2. To publish it immediately, click the blue Publish button.

  3. To schedule your post to publish in the future, click on "Edit" beside where it says "Publish immediately."

  4. Select your desired publication date. NOTE: the date field is the second box! Click OK and then click Schedule.

  5. The next screen shows the date that you have scheduled your post to publish. Click Update and you're done. If you want to change the publication date, click Edit and repeat the above steps.
